Why are Free Christian channels a better choice for your home?

I had the opportunity while traveling to check out a little bit of what’s playing on television, I was looking for news and why I was surfing channels I became disgusted. I could not believe my eyes and my ears, secular TV had gotten worse, 100% worse. I honestly don’t know how people handled that junk day in and day out, especially when you have little children in the home. It’s no wonder society is so messed up, morality is in a gutter, politicians still and even fraud the nation. I have to be honest with you, I lasted less than 5 minutes with the TV on because of the programming and commercials.
Don’t get me wrong, I will sit down and watch TV, however, I only watch Christian channels on my satellite system, if the TV goes on at all. I’d rather read or hear a good book or walk. My family and I accomplish so much more and spend more quality time together after we gave TV up.[/sdf_text_block][/sdf_col][/sdf_row][sdf_row id=”sdf-row-3″][sdf_col id=”sdf-col-1″ width=”1/1″][sdf_headline id=”sdf-element-0″ module_width=”1/1″ top_margin=”” bottom_margin=”” title_heading=”h1″ font_family=”Georgia,serif” font_size=”16″ line_height=”” letter_spacing=”” text_color=”” text_alignment=”left” entrance_animation=”No” entrance_animation_duration=”” rotate_words=”no” rotator_delay=”1000″ rotator_separator=”” fit_text=”no” fit_compressor=”” fit_min_font_size=”” fit_max_font_size=”” class=””]TV Is An Addiction.[/sdf_headline][/sdf_col][/sdf_row][sdf_row id=”sdf-row-4″][sdf_col id=”sdf-col-1″ width=”1/1″][sdf_text_block id=”sdf-element-0″ module_width=”1/1″ top_margin=”” bottom_margin=”” max_width=”” text_alignment=”left” font_family=”Georgia,serif” font_size=”12″ line_height=”” text_color=”” entrance_animation=”No” entrance_animation_duration=”” link=”” link_title=”” target=”None” nofollow=”no” class=””]Its true secular TV is an addiction and it has affected millions for decades now. Television shows and the techniques that they use too hypnotized you are dangerous, especially for children. Here are some facts and statistics that you are probably not aware of. The American Academy of Pediatrics in a study done in 1999 issued guidelines recommending that children under the age of 2 watch NO television or screen entertainment at all. In an interview in 1999 with Yale Professor Dr. Jerome Singer, Dr Singer states that he believes it is best to withhold TV completely until reading and learning habits are well established.
Did you know that in 1999 a study done by “TV turn off” put out these statistics. Children attend 900 hours of school time every year, however they watch 1,023 hours of TV. Let me ask you who is educating our kids today? Your right of course, the TV is! Did you realize that children spend more face time with characters (good or bad) on TV than their own parents.

Check it out for yourself. Do a search on Google and type “children and television”. The last time I preached a sermon on this topic that search provided 1,100,000,000 hits.

There’s no way that I could research every single one of these but I have a few that may interest you.

At the top of the Google list is stanfordchildrens.org

I will save you a little time with their report, however, go read it and study this topic yourself.

“As children grow and develop, they can be easily influenced by what they see and hear, especially from digital media. Digital media can include TV, the internet, and smart devices. Some programs can be educational. But many children watch too much digital media. Many programs can show children violent behavior that you don’t want them to imitate, or that can cause fear. Digital media may also show children poor eating habits through commercials for high-calorie, low-nutrient foods. Too much screen time can also take away from reading, studying, learning activities, play, and exercise. Digital media can also show alcohol and drug use, smoking, and sexual behavior. Your child may see these things before they are emotionally ready to understand these issues. And before they can make good decisions.

As a parent, you can help decrease the harmful effects of digital media. You can monitor the type of programming and limit your child’s screen time. Here are some tips for setting good viewing habits”

Their recommendations not mine.

  • “Choose programs for your child to watch. Always plan what your child will be watching. Don’t turn on a viewing device randomly. Give choices between 2 programs you think are appropriate for your child.
  • Limit screen time to 1 or 2 hours a day for children older than 2 years. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children younger than 2 years should not watch digital media.
  • Turn to educational shows……..
  • Watch programs with your child……
  • Turn off the TV or other device if the program is something you believe your child should not see.
  • Don’t assume all cartoons are acceptable and appropriate. Many cartoons contain violence.
  • Many daytime programs such as soap operas and talk shows are not appropriate for children.
  • Be a good example to your child by not watching too much TV or digital media yourself……
  • Encourage play and exercise for your child……
  • Limit screen time as a reward for good behavior. Try a trip to the park…..
  • Don’t allow screen time during meals.”

“Most kids today are plugged into devices like TVs, tablets, and smartphones well before they can even ride a bike.

Technology can be part of a healthy childhood, as long as this privilege isn’t abused. For example, preschoolers can get help learning the alphabet on public television, grade schoolers can play educational apps and games, and teens can do research on the Internet.”

But too much screen time can be a bad thing

  • “Children who consistently spend more than 4 hours per day watching TV are more likely to be overweight.
  • Kids who view violent acts on TV are more likely to show aggressive behavior, and to fear that the world is scary and that something bad will happen to them.
  • Teens who play violent video games and apps are more likely to be aggressive.
  • Characters on TV and in video games often depict risky behaviors, such as smoking and drinking, and also reinforce gender-role and racial stereotypes.

That’s why it’s so important for parents to keep tabs on their kids’ screen time and set limits to ensure they’re not spending too much time in front of a screen.”

I can tell you from my own experience that after running a cable television company and being a regional manager for a large corporation and watching TV for many years that when I dropped TV, I went through withdrawals.  I didn’t know what to do with myself, I would constantly pace. I didn’t know what to do and finally decided that I was just going to be productive. You know what? I did become more productive, and spend more time with my family, those are great benefits in my book.

I am not alone you see, thousands of our customers have reported the same experience of withdrawals when they dropped and disconnected their secular TV shows. I’ve had way to many conversations with many pastors that are so worried about their parishioners.  After their parishioners attend church they go home and turn on their TV’s. To quote just one Pastor “TV washes away all the preaching and the Spirits blessing that was received during Sunday school and the sermon.

I mentioned Free Christian TV channels earlier,  I highly recommend it. Pastors love it because the parishioners continue to be blessed with the word of God. Many churches gift a satellite systems to their newly baptized members.  Members are learning how to install the ChristianDish systems using our free resources. Family, friends and neighbors have been sponsored by the local churches.
